Wearable Devices: A Rat Race Now!

Wearable Devices: a word fascinating enough to grab attention of all the techno geek out there. The technology is among the most burgeoning phenomenon to lead the world to a new era of interaction with information.

We have already welcomed the most speculated invention: Google Glass which is set to hit the mass market soon. Similarly other most sought wearable devices these days are Smart Watches from the giants like Apple, Sony, Samsung and Qualcomm.

Are these the only upcoming devices? Of course NO, rather it has been said that wearable devices will soon replace everyone's favorite Mobile Phones. Earlier the companies which were eager to catch up with the booming handset market are now keener to set a mark in this upcoming exciting computing market.

Intel Corporation, a leading chip maker somehow lost its market share to ARM Holdings in Mobile Technology but now the company is ready to leave no stone unturned to get back its market proficiency. To achieve the same the company has shaken hand with a five year old Canadian firm Recon Instrument to enter in the race. Intel's Quark chip, the smallest chip ever specially designed to bring in the computing and communications capability to everything.

Microsoft is no exception and if rumors to be believed then the company will soon be acquiring Osterhout Design Group, a company already working with US Military and is specialized in wearable technology.

How can I miss the most important participant of the race: Pebble Technology, the first most hi-tech watch of 21st century, a customizable watch designed for Android and iPhone users, the technology has been successful in being a second screen to the smartphones. One can make a call, listen songs, measure speed and what not?

Such initiatives have confirmed one thing for sure, that the sci-fi future is no far now...

Mobile Applications

Can you guess what is the most mushrooming thing these days? Ahaan! you got it right....the answer is Mobile Applications. With every new upcoming product comes a complementary app like we have Big Boss App, Comedy Nights With Kapil App etc.

But have you ever wondered what made these applications to rise in a such large numbers.? Why marketers have started emphasizing more on mobile applications than the conventional marketing? Let me answer this. These mobile applications have made it easy for companies to be in touch with their customers' on 24*7 basis. Other major factors acting as magnet for application development are: service optimization, accuracy, increased transparency and fast operations.

Now comes the real question to decide over what form of Mobile Applications should a company go for? Basically there are two types of applications:
1. Native Apps
2. Mobile Website Apps

Native Apps: OS specific apps are called Native Apps. These apps can only operate on the platforms they are coded for- one unfortunate instance is that a BlackBerry user can never play Angry Birds.

Mobile Website Apps: are just a conversion of website into mobile website i.e. once-written runs everywhere wherein no extra efforts for various devices are required. Responsive Website are the best one as these website provides the optimum view for every sort of device right from Laptops to Qwerty-handsets. Example: Flipkart & Indigo Airlines

Hybrid Apps: as the name suggests, these apps are the combination of native apps and web technologies. It operates in native container while using browser engine of the device. In terms of efficiency, these are the best one for overall experience.

If the marketer wants to reach the critical mass of the targeted audience the mobile apps are absolutely among the best options. The kind of the app will be dependent on the type of platforms you have planned or is required by your company. If it is going to be just a utility app, then a web app or hybrid app will be perfect to function across all the operating system. However if the purpose of the app is to exploit the features of the smartphone like camera, GPS, memory card etc. like viber, whatsapp does then the Native Apps can only serve the purpose.

The major concern with Native Apps are that they have to be coded for at least 4-5 mobile OS to reach the mass. Making a Native app is a costly affair and has its own maintenance concerns for each platform. On the other hand web apps are website agnostic and is capable enough to operate in every kind of device, thus reduces the maintenance and other costing issues.

Hope that I have done justice with the topic I have taken up. Will be back soon with a new topic till then,
